Two Alumni Featured in MSUM’s McGrath Writer’s Series

MSUM’s McGrath Visiting Writer’s Series presents two MSUM MFA Creative Writing graduates who will read from their recently published books at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15 in King Hall Auditorium.

hulse-55Dean Hulse, 2002 MFA, is the author of “Westhope: Life as a Former Farm Boy.” Hulse is a freelance writer and an activist for issues of land use, renewable energy, and sustainable agriculture. He lives in Fargo, N.D.

merrieMerrie Sue Holtan, 2004 MFA, is the author of “Power and Stride: The Nancy Burggraf Story,” which also includes a DVD produced by Holtan.

Holtan has been an instructor in communication studies for more than 20 years and currently teaches at MSUM. She has been a freelance feature and public relations writer for over 25 years with more than 300 published articles at local, regional and national levels. She is managing editor of Open Magazine in Fargo. In 2008, she was chosen as the Communicator of Achievement by North Dakota Professional Communicators. She and her husband, Rev. Phil Holtan, live on Big Pine Lake, Perham, Minn.  They have three grown children.
