Instate Scholarship Policy for International Students

The Office of International Programs has recently implemented an instate scholarship policy for our International Students.   We are currently looking for departments, offices, and organizations that would be willing to fulfill the requirements for this scholarship.  If you are interested in having an international student do volunteer work for your department, organization, event, etc. or have questions please either email Janet at hohenst@mnstate.edu
or call at 477-2959.

The guidelines are as follows:

POLICY

Awarding Minnesota Resident Tuition to International Students All international students attending MSUM will be eligible for a Minnesota Resident Tuition Scholarship. In order to be eligible for the scholarship, each semester, students must complete 10 hours of voluntary service at MSUM or within the community and maintain satisfactory academic progress. Students will be eligible for the Minnesota Resident Tuition Scholarship beginning their first year; however, the scholarship will be applied in the following way:

Students will be charged out-state tuition for the first semester. Upon completing 10 hours of voluntary service and establishing satisfactory academic progress, students who continue to be enrolled the second semester will have the entire first year’s Scholarship (approximately $6400.00) applied toward their second semester’s account balance. Students who do not choose to attend MSUM their second semester will not be awarded the Minnesota Resident Tuition Scholarship.

After students have completed their first academic year, as long as they have maintained a cumulative 2.0 GPA / 67% course completion rate and completed the 10 hours of community service, their scholarship will be applied during each semester rather than once per year. (In other words, beginning their third semester, approximately $3,200 USD will be applied each semester towards their tuition.)

Students transferring from a US College or University and Exchange students will be given Minnesota Resident Tuition the first semester they are here.
