Relay for Life June 12-13

The American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Clay County 2009 will be held on the MSUM campus June 12-13. It is one of 5,000 community gatherings nationally where teams of people camp out and take turns circling a track or path to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and empower all individuals to fight back against this disease. The Clay County event this year has 23 team registered at this time. Each team is asked to have a member on the track at all times during the overnight event, because cancer never sleeps!

The 2009 Honorary Survivor Chair and Team Captain is Marie Swanson, SLHS. She enthusiastically invites everyone to participate. MSUM’s Straw Hat Players will begin the line up of entertainment at 5:30 p.m on June 12, the opening ceremony is at 6 p.m. with entertainment continuing throughout the evening. The luminaria ceremony is at 9:45 p.m. Luminaria bags are glowing bags filled with sand and candles, and every bag represents a life that has battled cancer. Last year at MSUM over 1,500 luminaria were placed around the path on the mall and glowed all night—what a moving sight!

In addition to entertainment by Straw Hat Players, Trollwood Performers, Gooseberry Park Players, Dan Brekke, and others, there are activities for children and adults and silent auctions throughout the evening. If you are interested in more information about the event or would like to have a luminaria on the path, please contact: Marie Swanson, swansonm@mnstate.edu; Kathy Watt, Kathytwinsx2@aol.com; or Deb Gifford@mnalaw.com.

Please come June 12 to Celebrate! Remember! Fight Back!
