Director of Housing Candidates Open Forums Scheduled
Three candidates have been invited to campus for the Director of Housing and Residential Life position. The campus will have an opportunity to hear and meet the candidates at the open forums that are scheduled in the Science Lab 118.
Heather Phillip’s presentation/open forum will be Monday, June 22nd from 2:30-3:30 p.m.
Sandra Schoonover’s presentation/open forum will be Wednesday, June 24th from 2:30-3:30 p.m.
Brian Dusbiber’s presentation/open forum will be Monday, June 29th from 2:30-3:30 p.m.
Below are the biographies of the candidates.
Heather Phillips
Heather Phillips is currently Coordinator of Residence Life at Iowa State University in Ames, a position she has held since June 2006. Her experience in housing began with a position as Graduate Associate Hall Director at Colorado State University in July 1998. Her internships include residence life program review, master planning, and business and finance. Heather’s positions have incorporated a strong academic component, including five years with learning communities and one year as Interim Assistant Dean of Students and Director of the Academic Success Center at Iowa State. She is actively involved with Association of College and University Housing Officers-International (ACUHO-I), and has been a co-presenter at ACUHO-I and American College Personnel Association (ACPA) national conventions. Heather holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and French from Western Illinois University, and Master of Science in Student Affairs in Higher Education from Colorado State University. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies with an emphasis in higher education administration at Iowa State.
Sandra Schoonover
Sandra Schoonover is currently the Associate Director of Housing/Director of Residence Life at the University of Oregon in Eugene. She has held the Residence Life position since July of 1999, and was promoted to Associate Director of Housing in July 2008. She began her career in housing in 1987, and has held positions at North Dakota State University and the University of South Dakota previous to her current position. At Oregon, she has worked with Faculty in Residence (FIR) programs, Freshman Interest Groups (FIGs) and numerous living learning initiatives. Sandra is actively involved in ACUHO-I, and currently serves on the International Foundation Board. She has presented on a variety of housing related topics at national and regional conferences. Sandra holds a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications, Speech Communications and Secondary Education from Mankato State University, and Master of Education from North Dakota State University.
Brian D. Dusbiber
Brian Dusbiber is currently the Acting Director for Administration with the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) in Washington, D.C. He served as Director of Residence Life for 22 years at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota. He began his housing career with four years at Northern Illinois University. Prior to joining ACPA Brian served as the Director of Student Affairs Life/Work Center at St. Thomas for seven years. Brian has been an active member of both ACPA and ACUHO-I, including several committee memberships, and has published and presented on a variety of housing and student topics. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Eastern Michigan University, a master of Arts in Guidance and Counseling with a concentration in student services from Eastern Michigan University, and a Doctor of Education, Leadership, Policy, and Administration from the University of St. Thomas.
