Are You Interested in Helping to Create Diverse Art for Campus?
MSUM’s Livingston Lord Library and Training Our Campuses Against Racism (TOCAR) received a Lake Region Arts Council grant to create public art that explores ideas about diversity from the combined perspectives of campus and community. The art will be a mobile “mural” and will reside in the Library but may travel to different campus areas. Magda Szeitz, an artist from the Fargo-Moorhead community, will facilitate the creative process.
The actual design and painting of the art project will occur in Fall, 2009, but we would like to start putting together a team of student and community participants now to help us in the initial planning stages. We are looking for anyone who is interested in participating: no artistic talent needed, just the desire and willingness to help us conceptualize the project and to make this project a true campus-community partnership.
An initial planning and informational meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 10 at 4 p.m. in CMU 208. Light refreshments served.
If you are interested but cannot attend the June meeting, e-mail Lori Wallace at wallacel@mnstate.edu with your name, phone number, and e-mail. We will contact you regarding opportunities to work on this project in the Fall.
A kick-off design meeting will occur in August, 2009, after school is back in session for Fall; the actual painting will occur fall semester.
This activity is funded in part by a grant from the Lake Region Arts Council through a Minnesota State Legislative appropriation.
