MSUM Concert Choir To Perform With FM Symphony
The Fargo-Moorhead Symphony is offering a community celebration concert following the Flood of 2009 that will include the MSUM Concert Choir among other local music groups.
Two performances are scheduled: Saturday, April 25 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 26 at 2 p.m., both in the Gate City Theatre at the Fargodome. Admission is FREE. Patrons who have already purchased tickets will be given premium seating.
Old and new popular favorites will combine in a mix sure to lift spirits and voices. The program includes Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, Variations on a Shaker Melody, and Hoedown; finales from Beethoven’s Symphonies 5 and 9; the William Tell Overture by Rossini; the Hallelujah Chorus with audience sing-along! – Nimrod from Elgar’s Enigma Variations; John Williams’ Star Wars; and the 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky. Other guest artists include Fargo Moorhead Chamber Chorale, Master Chorale of Fargo Moorhead, NDSU Concert Choir, Fargo-Moorhead Area Youth Symphonies Conductor, and FMSO Music Director Bernard Rubenstein.
“Unfortunately, our once-in-a-lifetime concert was trumped by a once-in-a-lifetime flood,” wrote Executive Director Linda Coates to the Fargo Forum in an email. “With 20,000 evacuated students and musicians, others who were exhausted from flood-fighting, a severely shortened choral rehearsal schedule—not to mention the wildly inappropriately-themed “Requiem” in the face of a near-death experience our community just endured—we decided we were actually looking at the perfect opportunity for an unforgettable community celebration.”
Join in celebrating the spirit of the Fargo-Moorhead community and of all those who came from far and near to help. We couldn’t have done it without you.
