Welcome Week Schedule

Faculty and staff are invited and encouraged to attend in the following Welcome Week events:

Tuesday, August 16

  • President’s Opening Address
  • 9-10 a.m. in Hansen Theatre, Roland Dille Center for the Arts Building
  • All faculty and staff should attend (offices may close at supervisor’s discretion)

Wednesday, August 17

  • A Respectful Campus: Understanding and Addressing Workplace Bullying Training
  • 6:30-8:30 a.m.; 9:30-11:30 a.m.; 1-3 p.m. in Langseth Hall 104
  • All faculty and staff should attend (offices may close at supervisor’s discretion)

Thursday, August 18

  • Residence Hall Move-In Day; you’re invited to welcome and assist students and their families as they move-in
  • 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.; contact Heather Phillips (phillipshe@mnstate.edu) to sign up for a shift and receive your t-shirt
  • Check in at the Welcome Tent, located north of West Snarr Hall

Friday, August 19

  • Convocation
  • 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Nemzek Hall

Welcome Week Driving Directions for Incoming Students

Reconstruction on 8th Street in Moorhead is behind schedule. The Minnesota Department of Transportation recommends the following routes for students coming to campus Aug. 18 for Welcome Week:

  • Students coming to Moorhead on I-94 from the east (Fergus Falls, Twin Cities) should be able to take the 8th Street exit (1A) and drive north to campus
  • Students coming to Moorhead on I-94 from the west (Fargo, Bismarck) should take the 20th Street exit and drive north to campus
  • Students coming to Moorhead on Highway 75 from the south (Breckenridge) should follow the detour signs to 20th Street if in place. Otherwise, follow 8th Street if it is open.

Welcome Week for incoming freshmen and transfer students is Aug. 20–23. MSUM puts on one of the most extensive orientation week programs.

Fall classes for Minnesota State University Moorhead’s 2014-15 academic year begin Monday, August 25.

Welcome Week for incoming freshmen and transfer students is Aug. 20 – 24. MSUM puts on one of the most extensive orientation week programs.

“Dragon Welcome Week really gives students an all-around experience that encompasses various activities and events,” Mitch Johnson, the assistant director of First Year Programs said. “We have everything from a comedian, to a dance, to a Saturday-Night-Live-type show put on by our Student Orientation Counselors – SOCs as we call them – with much more in between. We make sure to pack our days full of activities to keep our students busy, help them get involved, and really feel at home in the Dragon community.”
