Faculty members of the School of Performing Arts are presenting a Faculty Recital Thursday, September 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Glasrud Auditorium in Weld Hall.

Performers are Terrie Manno, Kevin Priebe, Erynn Millard, David Ferreira, Tiana Grise, Earnest Lamb, Elise Nelson, Jenny Dufault, Stephen Sulich (Concordia College faculty member performing as a guest), Kevin Zepper (MSUM English faculty member performing as a guest), Tom Strait, Michael Krajewski and Allen Carter. Manno participates in Alexander Technique Summer Intensive Course

Manno’s Article Published in ‘The Piano Magazine’

Terrie Manno’s article, titled “What are they thinking? The key to your students’ best performances” has been published in the May/June 2016 edition of Clavier Companion, “The Piano Magazine.” Her thesis is that music students perform more successfully when they have developed and practiced mental thought streams that they link and sync to the physical execution of their work.

Lines&Notes Performs at International Conference

Kevin Zepper and Terrie Manno will be performing tonight at 7 p.m. inside Stoker’s in the Hotel Donaldson. This event is free.

Lines&Notes is a collaborative exhibition with pianist Terrie Manno and poet Kevin Zepper. In some selections, poems become movements based on a theme. Other works are the realization of random words and musical phrases based on author William S. Burroughs cut-up method. Some of their work is specific to each audience: newspaper clippings from local and school papers and “lines” from the audience arranged into poetry. Dr. Tiana Grise, instructor of flute at MSUM, will present a Faculty Recital on Friday, September 12 at 7:30 pm in Fox Recital Hall. She will be joined by fellow MSUM faculty member Dr. Terrie Manno, piano as well as Stephen Sulich, piano, Tom Christianson, percussion and Erika Tomten, flute. They will perform an engaging program including works by J.S. Bach, Elliot Carter, and Robert Beaser.

Interdisciplinary partnership brings music and poetry together

Professor Terrie Manno, Music, and Kevin Zepper, MFA English, will present their collaborative music and poetry to students in Fox Theater on the Minnesota State University Minnesota campus on Friday, April 11 at 3 p.m. This is an interdisciplinary partnership Manno and Zepper began last year. Some of the work involves the William S. Burroughs “cut-up” approach to poetry.

This convocation will focus on artists working with other artists, integrating the arts and humanities in performance.

Music faculty recital set for Wednesday

A Music Department faculty recital featuring Elise Buffat Nelson, cello, is set for Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in Fox Recital Hall. The recital is titled “An Evening of Romantic Chamber Music,” and includes Rachmaninoff’s Cello Sonata in G minor and Dvorak’s Piano Quintet in A, Op. 81. Joining Nelson are Terrie Manno, and Sue Nagel, piano; Sonja Harasim and Jane Linde Capistran, violins; and Tim Nelson, viola.

The event is free and open to the public.

Music Department to present faculty recital Saturday night

Members of the MSUM Department of Music will combine their talents to present a Faculty Recital this Saturday, Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Weld Hall (Glasrud Auditorium). The recital will feature performances by Elise Buffat-Nelson, Raychl Smith, Terrie Manno, Kevin Zepper, Sue Nagel, Tianna Grise, Jenny Dufault, Annette Richter, Kenyon Williams, Julie Adams, and Allen Carter. The concert will feature a variety of works for piano, voice, strings, winds, guitar, and percussion.

Terrie Manno presented at North Dakota Music Teacher’s Association workshop

Terrie Manno, Music (piano), presented an invited workshop to the North Dakota Music Teacher’s Association membership March 6.  The workshop, titled “Student Projects that Develop Musicianship, Improve Listening Skills and Generate Enthusiasm,” provided local piano teachers with innovative strategies that synthesize student learning through group and individual projects.
