Students presented talk at higher education conference

Sean Taylor, History, and Peter Quinn, Social Studies, presented a talk entitled “Playing Games in Class: Using Historical Simulations to Facilitate Critical Thinking in the Classroom” at a November conference on higher education in Minneapolis. The presentation included a re-enactment of the Boston Massacre to demonstrate active learning and game-playing pedagogy in a classroom run by students.

Red River undergraduate philosophy conference Nov. 20

Three MSUM philosophy majors will present their original research at the third annual Red River Undergraduate Philosophy Conference Saturday, November 20. Gary Nickell and students attend psychology conference

Gary Nickell, Psychology, and three undergraduate psychology students,Tiffany Bouwman, Allison Becker and Kassondra Henschel, attended the 2010 Northern Lights Psychology Conference in Grand Forks Oct. 23. They presented a research poster titled “The Influence of Highs and Lows on the Optimistic Bias.” Two additional psychology students, Trisha Page and Himani Khatri, worked on this project.

2010 annual diversity conference Aug. 11

The 2010 Regional Diversity Conference, entitled “Embracing Diversity in the Public and Private Sectors,” will be held August 11, 2010 at Knutson Campus Center & Jones Conference Center at Concordia College in Moorhead. All NDSU, MSUM, or Concordia faculty and staff may register for the conference at the discounted rate of $50 for the full day with lunch through July 31st. CEUs 0.8* will be provided.
