Minnesota State Employees’ Combined Charities Campaign is here

Posted on October 13, 2017

From Oct. 1 through Oct. 31, join us in a competition with the other Minnesota State Universities to be the most charitable institution. We are competing for the highest percentage of employee participation—even $10 helps! Employees can donate to a charity of their choice through payroll deduction. Set it up once, and your generosity keeps giving all year long!

This process makes your donation stretch further to help Minnesotans in need. The campaign includes Charitable Federations, groups of charitable organizations that represent charities working on similar issues. This collaboration keeps administrative and fundraising expenses low, making your contribution dollars go as far as possible.

Donate to the cause that matters most to you––environment, education, women’s issues, breaking the cycle of poverty, and much more!  Read the rest of this entry →

Combined Charities Report

Posted on November 17, 2011

We received a report last week from the state on this year’s Combined Charities Campaign. The GOOD News is that the Agency totals show MSU Moorhead, once again, above any of the other MnSCU units in total contributions. MSUM’s total for on-line pledges via the Employee Self-Service site is $33,215.00! PLUS, we sent in one-time checks which totaled $2,390.00 for a grand total of $35,605! THANK YOU to all who made those totals possible. The Not-so-good News is that we didn’t reach our $60,000 goal and we are $14,408.00 below last year’s total of $50,013. Statewide, the totals are down somewhat from last year. The Minnesota state totals as of November 14 are 2,134 participating employees for a total of $744,039. This compares with 2,395 employees and $821,729 last year. Read the rest of this entry →

Combined Charities Campaign: Why I Give

Posted on October 27, 2011

Why do MSUM employees participate in the Combined Charities Campaign? Here are three answers to that question.

“I know what it feels like to not have “enough” to meet the basic needs of my family; needs like food, medical care, housing. I want to help soothe that feeling of fear and despair.” – Jenenne Guffey, Psychology/AMCS

“Last year I met a young woman who had run away from an abusive home situation (largely due to her gender and her sexual orientation). She was homeless and unemployed. She had no place to go. The YWCA took her in and gave her housing, at no cost to her. For this reason I decided to donate $5/month to the Cass County YWCA last year. Although things can be tight for me at the end of a pay period, I don’t miss $5, and even that small amount can make a world of difference.” – Raymond Rea, Film Studies Read the rest of this entry →

State of Minnesota’s Employee Combined Charities Campaign starts October 1st

Posted on September 30, 2010

The annual Minnesota State Employees Combined Charities Campaign begins Friday, October 1st.  It is planned and administered by state employees. During the campaign, you will have the opportunity to make a pledge to donate funds to a charity of your choice.

As a Minnesota State University Moorhead employee, you can invest in your community when you contribute. Your investment, small or large, will make a difference. You may choose to support programs that meet humanitarian needs as well as programs that aim to create lasting change. With the Combined Charities payroll deduction plan, you can pay your gift over the year, or you may choose a one-time gift.

Last year, MSUM employees contributed $57,094 most of which was designated to the United Way of Cass-Clay. Because of your generosity, Moorhead and Fargo and neighboring communities are better places to live. This year we hope to raise $63,000 on our campus.

Your investment can accomplish great things. For example, if you pledge $10.00 per pay period to the United Way of Cass-Clay, your gift could provide eight weeks of support group services to children who’ve lost a loved one; or five weeks of fuel for the Daily Bread truck; or support for the early childhood initiative, Success by 6.

MSUM’s Combined Charities Campaign team is Deb Lewi (2158), Karen Mehnert-Meland (2447), and Andrea Scott (2626).
This year’s campaign will run through the month of October. Together, we can accomplish important goals with our philanthropy. Please consider what a difference you could make!

$11,113 to go!

It takes only a few pennies each hour of work for Minnesota’s state employees to make a big difference in the lives of thousand of individuals.

Support MSUM’s Combined Charities Campaign and help make 2009 a year to remember!

The State of Minnesota set out to raise $1 million through the State Employee’s Combined Charities Campaign this year, and to date 2,675 state employees have donated $875,000.00 this year.

If you have not yet pledged to this campaign, please consider doing so. No amount is too small. Even a pledge of $1.00 per paycheck can make a difference!

Collectively, state employees make a huge impact on non-profits and their missions throughout the state. This year we have witnessed time and again the tremendous response these organizations have made throughout the State of Minnesota when they were needed. This is our chance to thank them and give them the resources they need to continue their work.

Currently, MSUM’s Combined Charities Campaign total is $51,886.64; which is 82.3% of this year’s $63,000 goal. If MSUM employees (who donated last year but have not yet donated this year) would donate the same amount again this year – we could definitely meet and beat our goal!

To see what your $$$ can do, check out the MSUM web site at: http://www.mnstate.edu/home/combinedcharities2009.htm

NOTE: If you need assistance in making your pledge, please contact Deb at 2158…..If you have made your pledge on-line, please email Deb at (lewisd@mnstate.edu) of your choices so that your name and contributions can be added to the list for prize drawings and also added towards MSUM’s goal.

MSUM’s Combined Charities Campaign ends soon!

Posted on October 26, 2009

The annual Minnesota State Employee’s Combined Charities Campaign runs through Saturday, October 31. If you have misplaced or have not yet received an information packet and pledge form, please contact Deb Lewis (2158) in Human Resources.

MSUM’s goal is $63,000. To date, MSUM employee pledges total $29,958.00- 47.5% of this year’s goal!

This year’s motto is: STATE EMPLOYEES CARING FOR MINNESOTA…YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

The timing of this year’s Campaign is coming at a time when many of us are holding our pocketbooks a little closer and we’re spending more carefully. While we all may be feeling a bit of a financial pinch, the necessity to contribute is even greater this year. $1 a paycheck can make a big difference to the charities—every little bit counts and can make a huge difference in someone’s life—in these tight financial times, it is better to give even a little, than not give at all. Combined Charities Campaign Underway

Posted on October 05, 2009

We’ve had a challenging year. The economic downturn hit our campus and the Red River almost overwhelmed our community. In response, we made decisions about our finances that will guide us in the coming year and we worked together to protect our neighbors. It wasn’t easy, but it was much tougher for many families in our community. Local shelters and food pantries are dealing with a sharp increase in need.

4-charitiesThe annual Combined Charities Campaign started on October 1st. The campaign is administered by Minnesota state employees. You will have the opportunity to make a pledge to donate funds to a charity of your choice. For Minnesota State University Moorhead employees, the campaign is an opportunity to invest in what you value.  Your donation, small or large, will make a difference. You may choose to support programs that meet humanitarian needs as well as programs that aim to create lasting change in our communities.

With the Combined Charities payroll deduction plan, you can pay your gift over the year, or you may choose a one-time donation to the charity of your choice. Last year, MSUM employees contributed $61,319.96 most of which was designated to the United Way of Cass-Clay. Because of your generosity, your communities are better places to live. This year our campus goal has been increased by 3 ½%. Considering the need, I hope we can surpass it.

MSUM’s Combined Charities Campaign leadership team is comprised of Deb Lewis (2158), Karen Mehnert-Meland (2447), and Peg Potter (2805). They’ve assembled 60 people to make personal visits during the month of October. Together, we pursue important goals with our philanthropy. Please consider the contribution you could make by participating in the Combined Charities Campaign!
