Saturdays June 22 and 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Brad Bachmeier will demonstrate pottery making and firing techniques that will include low-fire and atmospheric firing specialties including raku, horse-hair, slip-resist and obvarra firing techniques. Bachmeier will give an artist talk and exhibit a preview selection of his traveling exhibit “Conservation Through Clay.”
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area lies in Nevada’s Mojave Desert. It’s known for geological features such as towering red sandstone peaks and the Keystone Thrust Fault, as well as Native American petroglyphs. Juror Douglas Fitch selected Brad Bachmeier’s wheel-thrown, burnished and saggar-fired ceramic and reed-woven vessel entitled “Sannoo Kota (Basket-rim)” for inclusion in the Art of Clay National Juried Show at the North Carolina Pottery Center.
