Tvrdik named AVCA All-Region

American Volleyball Coaches Association announced their 2009 All-Region team selections on Nov. 30. Dragons rightside hitter, Laura Tvrdik was selected to the honorable mention team. Tvrdik ended the 2009 season leading the team with 362 kills hitting .324. She was a first team All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate selection after leading the league after ending the season ranked sixth in the league in hitting percentage. The Dragons volleyball team ended sixth in the league with a 21-12 record.

Johnson invited to play in All-American Bowl

MSUM senior wide receiver, Joe Johnson has been invited to play in the All-American Bowl in Minneapolis, Minn. On Dec. 12, 2009. Johnson finished his career with the Dragons this past November, as he led the Dragons in punt returns, kick returns and receiving. In his senior year, he returned 18 punts for a total of 120 yards, while averaging 18.1 yards per kick return on 41 returns. Johnson had 55 catches for 537 yards in 2009, averaging just under 50 yards per game. For complete story go here:

MSUM art exhibit opens Dec. 7

An MSUM student art exhibit will be on display Dec. 7-17 in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts gallery. The exhibit is in partial fulfillment of students’ bachelor of fine arts degrees. The exhibit will feature graphic design, painting, photography and printmaking. A reception for the artists will be held from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10 in the gallery. Math team places 9th at NCS/MAATeam Contest

The MSUM Mathematics Department is pleased to announce that the team Syntax Error placed 9th out of 92 teams that participated in this year’s NCS/MAA
Team Contest. The team consisted of the MSUM students Tony Batesole, Kathryn Bergee, and Haewoong Jeon, and earned a score of 88 out of a possible 100 points. Five teams (14 students) from MSUM participated in the contest. The Team Contest is an annual competition sponsored by the North Central Section of the Mathematical Association of America consisting of 10 challenging math problems. This year’s contest took place on Saturday morning, November 14 and included teams from 29 different institutions. We congratulate all of our students who gave up three hours on a Saturday morning to participate in the competition.
