Dr. Elizabeth Kirchoff, English, and four MSUM alumni (now Language Arts teachers), Andrew Tichy, Moorhead High School; Abby Swegarden, Lake Park Audubon High School; Ashlee Bernhardt Cournia, Shanley High School; and Katie Hansen, Waubun High School, presented at the Minnesota Council of Teachers of English annual conference, held April 30-May 1 in St. Cloud, MN.
Merrie Sue Holtan, communication journalism, won awards at the NDPC spring conference in Grand Forks, ND. She placed first in sports writing, second in newspaper feature writing personality profile, home writing and magazine feature writing, and third in personality profile. The first place award will be entered in national competition this September in Alaska.
Sherry Lee Short, Professor of Art in the School of Visual Arts, has received a 2015 summer artist residency in the Porcupine Wilderness in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Dr. Ananda Shastri and Dr. Linda Winkler, both of the MSUM Department of Physics and Astronomy, recently presented at the Minnesota Area Association of Physics Teachers meeting held April 25 at St. Cloud State University. Dr. Shastri presented “A versatile lab for teaching the physics of reed instruments using soda straws”; Dr. Winkler presented “Resources for teaching about sustainable energy”.
Terrie Manno, SPA, presented a solo piano recital of the music of Franz Schubert as part of the Thursday Musical concert series in Minneapolis on April 24, 2015.
