Andrew Chen presented at international engineering conference

Andrew Chen, Computer Science & Information Systems, attended and presented at the international conference on Transforming Engineering Education: Creating Interdisciplinary Skills for Complex Global Environments April 6-9 in Dublin, Ireland. The title of his presentation was “Having Students See the Human Context of Their Work Through Narrative.” The conference, hosted by IBM and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), focused on the role of cross-disciplinary instruction in preparing engineering graduates to meet the changing needs of employers. IEEE is the world’s largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence.

Stacy Voeller appointed to Editorial Board

Stacy Voeller, Director of University Writing & Electronic Resources Librarian, has accepted an appointment to the Editorial Board of Communications in Information Literacy (CIL) after having been a peer reviewer for the publication for the past two years. In offering the appointment, Co-Editors Christopher Hollister and Stewart Brower said, “You have demonstrated a genuine commitment to CIL, and your work as a manuscript reviewer is exceptional. Kyja Kristjansson-Nelson’s Sveit to exhibit at Wisconsin film festival

Kyja Kristjansson-Nelson’s experimental documentary, Sveit, will be exhibited at the 2010 Wisconsin Film Festival. Sveit will screen at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 17 at Madison’s Play Circle Theatre. A geneography of memory and place, Sveit was shot in a rural village on the north coast of Iceland. The filmmaker traces her family’s history and emigration from Iceland to the United States, while unpacking memories and stories of her grandfather’s experience as a New American in North Dakota. Trumpeter Marvin Stamm at MSUM

Trumpeter Marvin Stamm performs with the MSUM jazz ensemble Thursday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Hansen Theatre in the Roland Dille Center for the Performing Arts on the MSUM campus. A second appearance is set for Friday, April 23, at 8 p.m. at downtown Fargo’s Studio 222, where he’ll join the Simon Rowe Trio.
