Help Highlight MSUM accomplishments for the HLC assurance argument – 1C

In continuing the discussion, Minnesota State Moorhead is preparing for our Higher Learning Commission (HLC) site visit, which will occur in Fall 2027. As part of that preparation, the HLC Coordinating Committee (HLCCC) is collecting evidence and writing the Assurance Argument that will be provided to the visiting team.

Although the HLCCC will do much of the work of identifying accomplishments and collecting evidence, the committee is relatively small. We do not want to overlook achievements from your area, whether they involve faculty, students, staff, alumni, or community members connected to MSUM. To that end, this is the eighth in a series of messages that will provide opportunities to share accomplishments and evidence related to specific HLC subcriteria.  This week’s area is in the general area of institutional mission.

Mission and Diversity of Society (1C)

This area is about how MSUM provides opportunities for engagement in a diverse, multicultural society and globally connected world, as appropriate to our mission and the constituencies we serve.

Examples of evidence that may be relevant to these include:

Documentation of learning outcomes related to civic engagement
Assessment results demonstrating the development of civic engagement skills such as civil discourse, community problem-solving, ethical reasoning, intercultural competence, global awareness, leadership, and collaboration
Measurable outcomes related to real-world, problem-based learning in partnership with community agencies to solve a community need
Support or incentives for faculty or student research related to civic learning projects or public good questions
Participation records from extramural and independent volunteer or community service actives, including those based in the arts, culture, children/youth, human rights, public health, public policy, environment, and food security area
Information from course-based activities related to any of these areas, such as capstone experiences, community service projects, or other experiences
Materials or data related to service clubs or projects, including any student club or institutional-led volunteer experiences
Promotion materials or meeting minutes from campus committees, student organizations, or other activities that support civic engagement, diverse viewpoints, and global awareness

If you have examples that the HLCCC should consider, please submit them using the Microsoft Form below.  Note that this form can be used to submit information on any topic, not just the area highlighted this week.

We are working to ensure broad representation across campus and do not want to miss important accomplishments simply because they were not brought to our attention at the right time.

Because of the word limit for the Assurance Argument, we cannot guarantee that every submission will be included. Some subcriteria overlap, so we may incorporate information that does not fit neatly within this area into a related section.

Thank you for all you do, and please take this opportunity to highlight the accomplishments of yourselves and our students.
