Psychology Club and Association of School Psychologists host Suicide Prevention events

The Psychology Club/Psi Chi and Association of School Psychologists hosted two suicide prevention events for Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.

On Tuesday, September 15th, the clubs hosted Elizabeth Medd of the 4-6-3 Foundation. She presented suicide prevention education and resources with the over 80 students in attendance at the event. “There is always hope” Medd shared. Reflecting on the event, Psychology Club advisor Dr. Jenna Laurin stated, “The information is crucial for our students to hear. I’m so proud of both groups for bringing this message to campus.”

On Sunday, September 20th, the clubs walked as a team at the Out of the Darkness Walk hosted by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). “The event was incredibly impactful, and it was so encouraging to see such a great turnout in support of suicide awareness” said Anna Stish, Psychology Club/Psi Chi President. The clubs also fundraised for the foundation prior to the walk. AFSP raises funds for research, education, advocacy, and support for survivors of suicide loss.
