Summer IT Infrastructure Update: Enhanced Campus Wi‑Fi
Hello Dragon Community,
Over the summer, the Information Technology Team completed a major effort to improve the reliability, coverage, and capacity of our campus Wi‑Fi network. As part of this initiative, we installed 750 new wireless access points across campus, expanding our network from the previous 350 access points. This significant investment increases network capacity, improves coverage in high-demand areas, and helps provide a more consistent wireless experience for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
In addition, our team completed a Wi‑Fi signal remapping with the assistance of our IT student workers. This allowed us to verify coverage levels throughout campus, identify areas for optimization, and fine-tune the network to better support the growing number of connected devices. We are also increasing our network capacity from 6GB to 10GB, providing additional bandwidth to support our growing demand.
While these improvements are designed to enhance overall performance, individual device settings can sometimes impact connectivity. If your Wi‑Fi seems slow or unavailable, please consider trying the following:
- Turn Wi‑Fi off and back on or restart your device to establish a fresh connection.
- Verify you are connected to the correct campus wireless network.
- Check for operating system and device updates, as outdated software can sometimes impact wireless performance.
