Retired Moorhead professor dies in plane crash
Liz Anne Conmy, a North Dakota State legislator who taught public relations writing, research, and event planning at Minnesota State Moorhead for 20 years, died Saturday, April 25, in a plane crash in Brooklyn Park, Minn., according to media reports.
Conmy was elected a state representative for District 11 in south Fargo in 2022 and was running for re-election.
Her career started at small town newspapers, included a stint marketing in the performing arts, and eventually led to being director of communications for a national nonprofit. She also operated her family’s grain farm near Langdon, N.D.
During her time at MSUM, Conmy advised student teams competing in the national Public Relations Society of America’s Bateman Case Study Competition, including three teams that placed in the top 15 nationally in 2015 and two that placed in the top 20 in 2018.
She retired from Moorhead as an assistant professor in 2020.
North Dakota Gov. Kelly Armstrong has directed all U.S. and North Dakota state flags to be flown at half-staff on the day of Conmy’s interment. Information about services has not yet been released.
