Two students are head dancers at Saturday’s powwow
The annual Woodlands and High Plains Powwow will be taking place at Nemzek Fieldhouse this Saturday, March 28. Two Dragons, Delores Gabbard and Anna Sheppard, have been appointed to lead the festivities as this year’s head dancers.
“Being a head dancer means you are someone who is held in high esteem and seen as a role model in the community. It’s an honor, ” Sheppard said.
The powwow includes a free meal, vendors, a silent auction, and multiple intertribal dances, where attendees are encouraged to join.
“A powwow is not just for Native Americans; anybody can attend and participate. It’s a way to get to know your neighbors in the community.” Gabbard said.
