Call for Nominations: Board of Trustees Awards for Excellence
Nominations for the 2026/2027 Board of Trustees Awards for Excellence in Teaching and Excellence in Service are now being accepted. Of the nominations we receive, MSUM is able to submit up to three Outstanding Educators and one Outstanding Service Faculty for consideration as the BOT Educator of the Year and Service Faculty of the year. If you would like to recognize someone for excellence in what they do, please complete this nomination form.
The Minnesota State Board of Trustees Awards for Excellence honor faculty who demonstrate sustained excellence in teaching or university service and a strong commitment to student success.
Excellence in Teaching (for IFO faculty)
This award recognizes outstanding teaching that is inclusive, innovative, learning‑centered, and collaborative. Honorees exemplify excellence in instruction and dedication to student learning that prepares students for professional, scholarly, and civic lives. Outstanding Educators are nominated by their institution and become eligible for selection by the Board of Trustees as Educator of the Year.
Excellence in University Service (for MSUAASF faculty)
This award honors service faculty whose work significantly supports students through advising, recruitment, retention, residential life, student leadership, and community engagement. Outstanding Service Faculty are nominated by their institution and become eligible for selection by the Board of Trustees as Service Faculty of the Year.
Eligibility
Outstanding Educators (IFO) must have at least three (3) years of full-time equivalent teaching service in their home institution prior to the year of their selection as a Board of Trustees Outstanding Educator and be currently employed.
Outstanding Service Faculty (MSUAASF) must have been employed for a minimum of five (5) consecutive years at a Minnesota State university. Of these five years, the two most recent years must be in the administrative service faculty’s current position. The remaining three years must be either:

in any position (excluding student employment) within the university in which the individual is currently employed, or
in any administrative service faculty position at any Minnesota State university. The Institution Last Hire Date may be used to establish consecutive years of service.
