Christy Goulet Presents: This Land: Access and Equity in Minnesota

Christy Goulet will be with us on March 16, 2026 from 3:30 – 6 PM in Langseth 118 to share the documentary: This Land.  This Land is a documentary directed by artist and activist Michelle de la Vega and Land Stewardship Project member Eva Barr, with videography by Gisell Calderon and Stan Juzwiak. The film examines a central question: Why aren’t there more Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) farmers in Minnesota?

Grounded in findings from the 2020 Emerging Farmers in Minnesota Legislative Report which notes that Minnesota farm operators are 99.16% white and that BIPOC farmers own less than 4% of agricultural land nationally, with even lower rates in Minnesota, this documentary follows land seekers, landowners, and land sharers as they navigate issues of land access and land justice in the United States.

The event will begin with a prayer in the Ojibwe language and a smudging ceremony, including a brief explanation of its purpose and significance. After the screening, attendees are invited to a 15‑minute Q&A session and the presenters will share flower pots which can be decorated by audience members and then filled with seeds, offered by the Indigenous Legacy youth group to encourage community gardening. The event will close with a traditional Chi‑miigwech (Thank you) song.

All are welcome to attend. Crafts and treats are provided.
