Dragon Fact: We’re Not ‘MSM’

Brand Consistency Matters: A Quick Naming Refresher

The question of “WHO ARE WE” and “HOW SHOULD WE REFER TO OURSELVES” has been asked several times recently, so below is clarification as noted in the university’s Visual Identity and Graphic Standards Guide.

  • Minnesota State University Moorhead  no hyphen and no comma – is our official name. It’s used in official and formal communications and designs. You can use this any time.
  • Minnesota State Moorhead is how the university refers to itself on first reference, especially in Marketing and Admissions materials.
  • Moorhead may be used on subsequent references as both a noun and adjective, e.g. she studies at Moorhead; Moorhead students succeed at DECA competition.
  • MSUM is an accepted abbreviation, especially when space is tight.

MSM is NOT an accepted abbreviation. Ever.

If you’ve been using MSM, please discontinue and use one of the accepted brand references noted above.
