Physics students present research at SPSCon 2025

Physics students Hannah Crumby, Gabe Grant, Jake Mailhot, and Taytum Nelson attended the SPSCon 2025 (Society of Physics Students (SPS) World Congress) in Denver, Colorado. This Physics and Astronomy Congress unites global undergraduate students alumni and faculty every three years for frontier physics workshops and networking at the American Institute of Physics (AIP) supported event.  The students all presented posters on their research to fellow undergraduates, professors, and professionals. The following posters were presented:

Hannah Crumby: Classifying Variable Stars within Already Taken MSUM Data
Gabe Grant: Investigations of Binary Neutron Star Inspiral Range Oscillations at LIGO, Livingston
Jake Mailhot: The Effects of Smoke on Photometry
Taytum Nelson: Low-Energy Cooling: Investigating the Efficiency of Indirect Evaporative Systems

The students also had the opportunity to tour facilities such as Lockheed Martin and the Chamberlin Observatory; connect with representatives from graduate schools and industry sectors such as Yale, University of Georgia, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Thorlabs; attend plenary speaker events with speakers such as Nobel Laurette Eric Cornell and co-discover of pulsars Jocelyn Bell Burnell; as well as participate in workshops and panel discussions on topics such as careers in national labs and science education.  The photo was taken of Jake, Tatum, Gabe and Hannah standing in front of Gabe’s poster.
