Poems by Joanne Bekkerus Published in “Lombardi Voices”

In October 2022, Joanne Bekkerus received word that her poetry had been accepted for publication in the “Lombardi Voices”, a literary journal of the Georgetown Lombardi Arts and Humanities program at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C.

 “I have found since my cancer diagnosis in 2017 that both writing and painting have helped me to express my honest thoughts about this part of my lived experience. I wrote poetry in my younger years and, after the diagnosis, found that I needed to make time to write to keep myself centered. Even though I have remained cancer free since 2017, I have continued the personal growth that began to flourish with that diagnosis. My hope is that the poetry I write and the paintings I create can become a catalyst for others.”  – Joanne
