Schedule your library instruction sessions now!
It’s never too early to talk about what the Livingston Lord Library can do to help you and your students achieve their learning goals. If your course has assignments that will use library resources and require research, a library instruction session is right for you!
We offer instruction in library resources in a variety of options in a variety of formats. Contact your department’s library liaison to discuss options and schedule a session in the library. Locate your library liaison at libguides.mnstate.edu/libraryliaisons.
Instruction Options:
LibGuides.
A custom research guide website designed in consultation with the instructor for a subject, a course, or an assignment. A librarian can create a LibGuide and conduct a face-to-face or Zoom instruction session with it. Available any time, these can serve as a review of library instruction or as a curated collection of trusted resources. See a variety of these at libguides.mnstate.edu.
Face-to-face Instruction.
Bring your class to one of the library’s two labs for an instruction session, often using a LibGuide. Current rules require face masks. Large classes (more than 30) can be split into two sessions, either on different days or the first and second halves of the class. Face-to-face opportunities are limited with class size and lab availability, so schedule at your earliest opportunity.
Synchronous Zoom Sessions.
Similar to a face-to-face session, but on Zoom. This option works best if classes have a set time for synchronous instruction. If you have an asynchronous class, consider video instruction.
Video Instruction.
A librarian can create a video discussing library resources specific to an assignment or conducting demonstrations. This option requires advanced planning – please contact your library liaison in advance for this option.
Class Visit.
A librarian can visit your class to talk about and demonstrate databases, search strategies, etc. or answer questions.
Options for Individuals.
Individuals can set up appointments with a librarian via Zoom or face-to-face. A librarian is available via chat, text, and in person at the library research help desk M-TH 9 am – 5 pm, F 9 am – 4 pm, and Sundays 1-5 pm. Questions can be sent to a librarian at their email or to the research help desk at refdesk@mnstate.edu.
We look forward to seeing you at the library!
