Cabanela presents on interactive educational software
Professor Juan Cabanela (Physics and Astronomy) was in Seattle from Jan. 6 through 9 presenting the work done by Physics majors Sam Holen and Andrew Louwagie Gordon in the summer of 2018. These MSUM students worked with Cabanela to develop interactive educational software for use in introductory astronomy classes. This was possible because of the Physics and Astronomy Department’s innovative curriculum which infuses many of the courses majors take with computer programming, including the first-year introductory physics courses. The majors develop this skill during their time here, allowing them to model fairly complex physical situations on a computer. The interactives developed by Cabanela, Louwagie Gordon, and Holen have been made available for free to the educational community at https://github.com/JuanCab/AstroInteractives/.
