Dragon wrestlers host Minot State tonight in regular-season finale

The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team will finish the regular season on Thursday night when they host the Minot State Beavers in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match. The dual will begin at 7 p.m., with live video available on msumdragons.com.

The Dragons enter the match on a two-match winning streak, having beaten Northern State 36-9 on Feb. 3 and Southwest Minnesota State 25-13 last Saturday.

In the Southwest match, the Dragons won six of the matches, with juniors Zach Scott and Adam Blees both winning via falls. Freshman Cole Jones won a major decision at 125 pounds, while sophomore Joe Schumacher (149), sophomore Weston Dobler (165), and redshirt freshman Jordan Magnuson (285) all won decisions.

Blees is among the team leaders with a 15-8 record, and is ranked 12th in the nation at 174 pounds. Jones is 16-11 in his freshman season, while Schumacher has a perfect 3-0 record, with all three wins coming in conference matches. Scott has a 13-13 record this season. Scott also leads the team with six falls on the season, with Jones in second place with five falls. Magnuson is 13-9 on the season.

Kris Nelson is in his ninth season as the MSUM head coach.

About the Beavers
The Beavers, coached by former Dragon wrestler and assistant coach Evan Forde, bring a 2-15 overall record into the dual, with a 0-6 conference mark. Their last win came on Jan. 12 when they beat Dickinson State 28-8. Their last action was a narrow 16-15 loss to the University of Mary. Prior to facing the Dragons, they will host the Northern State Wolves on Tuesday.. Their top performer is Mitchell Eull, who is 23-4 on the season at 285.

This will be the final dual for the Dragons, who will next be in action on Feb. 23-24 at the Super Region 3 tournament in St. Cloud, Minn.
