(FY14) SHV Personal Empowerment Through Self Awareness – News: Training Notice
On March 7, 2013, President Obama signed into law the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act (VAWA). The Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act was added within the reauthorization and provides new regulations for colleges and universities. Last Spring, MSUM updated the university Sexual Violence Policy and Procedures as the Minnesota State Universities and Colleges (MnSCU) Board of Trustees Sexual Violence Policy and System Procedure were amended and approved with appropriate changes.
Under the requirements of VAWA, the university must provide sexual violence awareness training to all students, focusing on promoting awareness of rape, acquaintance rape, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. MnSCU started their work in developing this training early in Summer 2014 and continued into the Fall semester. With the training finalized and released to campuses, the University has loaded the training into D2L.
The Personal Empowerment Through Self Awareness training has been developed to provide all students with education and awareness concerning sexual violence. It has been loaded into every enrolled student’s D2L. All students of the campus community are directed to complete the Awareness training.
