Touring theatre company takes fresh approach to Shakespeare’s best-loved comedy

On Saturday, Oct. 26, at 7:30 p.m., the acclaimed Aquila Theatre will stage one of Shakespeare’s funniest and most charming comedies, Twelfth Night. The performance is the second event in MSUM’s Cheryl Nelson Lossett Performing Arts Series, and takes place on the Hansen Theatre stage in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts on the MSUM campus.
Written in 1600 and set against a background of romance and mystery, Twelfth Night tells the story of identical twins and mistaken identity, set in the mystical world of Illyria. The comedy explores the universal themes of love and all its ambiguous effects on human behavior.
Aquila Theatre actors are well-known for taking Shakespearean masterpieces and infusing them with their unique brand of innovative theatricality. While faithful to Shakespeare, Aquila Theatre’s production is also relevant and accessible to a modern audience. It contains all the shipwrecks, duels, love and jealousy, disguises and suspicion of Shakespeare’s superb text, enhanced by professional American and British actors who bring their unique experience, dedication and creativity to major stages across America and to international stages such as the Ancient Stadium at Delphi.
