Bruce Roberts participated in The ToDo Institute Residential Certification Program
Dr. Bruce Roberts, Anthropology and Earth Science, participated in The ToDo Institute Residential Certification Program in Monkton, Vermont from July 13-22. This program provides training and practice in two methods of Japanese Psychology, Morita Therapy – designed to get patients suffering from depression to become more both more active and outwardly focused – and Naikan Reflection – an introspective exercise intended to promote awareness of our interdependence with others and gratitude for what we have received.
Anthropologists have noted that Morita and Naikan present contrasting strongly views to the emphasis upon individualism in conventional Western psychology and Roberts will be incorporating the insight he received from this unique experience into his Medical Anthropology course in the unit on stress and illness.
