Revisions to Admission Policy (effective Fall 2009)

· Students must complete at least 50% of their business credits (core plus major requirements), after being admitted to the School of Business.

· The one-semester enrollment option will now be open only to transfer students.

University Studies (effective Spring 2009)*

Change current statements regarding required minimum GPA in the partial major or rubric and the additional single rubric course work or area of concentration.

Current Wording:

Both the partial major or rubric and the additional single rubric or concentration must include courses with at least a 2.0 GPA. This has been interpreted as:

a. The GPA for the partial major or rubric will be at least 2.0 and

b. The classes used in the additional rubric or area of concentration will carry a minimum GPA of 2.0

Proposed Wording:

The GPA for the partial major or rubric and the classes used in the additional rubric or area of concentration will carry a minimum GPA of 2.0.

Writing Intensive Requirements(tabled 4-14-09 APAC) (effective Summer 2009)*

Current Wording:

Freshmen:

Beginning Fall 2006, incoming freshmen must complete English 101 (or an approved

alternative) plus four additional Writing-Intensive (W) courses.

· Two Writing-Intensive courses. These courses must be in the Middle and/or Outer Cluster of the Dragon Core. At least one course must be at the 300 or 400-level.

· Two additional Writing-Intensive courses. One course is at the 300- or 400-level and must be designated in the student’s major or designated as a related requirement for that major. The other course can be at the 200-, 300-, or 400-level and may be designated by the major.

Revised Wording:

Freshmen:

Incoming freshmen must complete five writing intensive (W) courses at MSUM:

· English 101 (or an approved alternative)

· One W course in Dragon Core

· One 300 / 400 W course designated by the major

· Two more W courses at the 200 level or higher, only one of which may hold the rubric of the student’s major.

If a student has multiple majors, the student must fulfill the University writing intensive course

requirements as well as the writing-intensive requirements of each major.

Current Wording:

Transfers:

Beginning Fall 2007, incoming transfer students who have completed the Minnesota Transfer

Curriculum or an AA degree must complete at least the designated Writing-Intensive (W) course

in the student’s major or designated by the major at the 300- or 400-level.

Revised Wording:

All Transfers:

Incoming transfer students must complete two writing intensive courses at MSUM:

· One 300 / 400 W course designated by the major

· One W course at the 200 level or higher, which may be designated by the student’s major or program area.

Writing-Intensive Course Review Policy

University Writing Committee recommends the following effective Summer 2009:

Writing-Intensive courses be reviewed every 5 years from the date of original approval in order to retain the writing intensive designation.

New form for continuation of W-I designation

Suppress print discussion for courses not being taught during the next catalog cycle
