Nick Fryer to perform & present at international guitar summit

Nick Fryer, Music, will perform and present clinics at the 2011 Midwest International Guitar Summit Friday and Saturday, Sept. 16 & 17 at A Center for the Arts in the Fergus Theatre in Fergus Falls, 124 W Lincoln Ave.

At the Midwest International Guitar Summit participants will have an opportunity to interact with guitarists and musicians, attend four concerts and two days of workshops. This is a unique opportunity to learn together, play together, jam together, as well as witness improvisational and collaborative playing. It is a great networking opportunity for musicians, presenters and audiences.

Scholarships are available for high school and college students or anyone takin guitar lessons on a regular basis. Contact A Center for the Arts for an application.

  • Advanced: Nick Fryer “Nuts & Bolts: Fretboard Mechanics”

• 10:30am-11:30am: Performance Workshop w/Multiple Guitarists — Dakota Dave Hull along with Luthiers: Guitar Making, Maintenance, and Types

• 11:30am-12:30pm: LUNCH BREAK

• 12:30pm-1:30pm: Open Time (time for visiting exhibitors, networking, jamming, etc.)

• 2:00pm-3:00pm: Three Workshops simultaneously (Choose One)

  • Beginners: Joan Griffith, Claudia Schmidt, Ann Reed “All Strung Out”
  • Intermediate: Michael Hauser “Flamenco Techniques” (participants encouraged to bring a nylon-string guitar)
  • Advanced: Dean Magraw “Token Electric Guitar Workshop: Magnets at Play” (participants must bring a small amp)

• 2:00pm: Minneapolis Guitar Quartet at A Center for the Arts (kicks-off our Chamber Music Series). Participants who purchase a Weekend Pass get a ticket to this concert as well!

TICKET OPTIONS: Weekend Pass (4 concerts, 8 workshops): $100

  • Daily Pass (1 concert, 4 workshops, either for Friday or Saturday): $50
  • Individual Concerts: $15 advance/$16 day of
