November: Celebrating American Indian Heritage Month

Join us throughout November as MSUM celebrates American Indian Heritage Month! We invite the campus community to take part in events recognizing and celebrating the cultures, traditions, and diverse identities of American Indian communities.

Here is what is happening during the first week:

Opening Pipe Ceremony | November 3 at 12:00 p.m.
Library Porch

Join us as Delvin Rogers welcomes American Indian Heritage Month to campus with a traditional pipe ceremony. Delvin is a pipe carrier and a member of the Three Affiliated Tribes in North Dakota. During the ceremony, Delvin will speak to the Great Spirit, acknowledge the four directions, and ask the Creator to watch over our students, campus, and the month’s events.

Tribal Nation Flag Display | November 1–15
CMU Sun Garden Lounge

Explore the Tribal Nation Flag Display, featuring flags and informative descriptions highlighting the histories, cultures, and unique identities of tribal nations represented among MSUM’s American Indian students. This display offers an opportunity to learn more about the rich diversity of Indigenous communities.

More events are coming! Stay tuned for next week’s announcement, featuring additional American Indian Heritage Month events happening throughout November.

All events are free and open to the public.

Sponsored by the American Indian Student Association (AISA) and Office of Diversity, Inclusion, & Global Engagement (ODIGE).
