Welcome Kayla Due, assistant drawing administration professor
Kayla Due is joining the Dragon Community as the assistant drawing administration professor in the Center for the Arts. She is in charge of foundational design and foundational drawing classes, helping freshman get started on their art program or arts major.
Q: Do you have any previous/other connection(s) to MSUM?
A: I was a student here. Aside from myself, I have two older siblings who graduated from here as well. So MSUM is kind of part of our family.
Q: What’s one thing that has surprised you about MSUM?
A: I graduated from here quite a while ago 2017, so about a decade ago. Coming back, I was very impressed to see how far the college has come as a whole, but also that it kept its unique qualities, little things that I loved when I was a student here.
Q: What’s the most interesting thing you’re working on right now? Why is it important?
A: The most interesting thing I’m working on right now is expanding my drawing portfolio, both professionally and personally. I work a lot in the painting field, but coming to MSUM as a drawing instructor, I really wanted to expand my own skills and, challenge myself, but also show students that you can have versatile skills and don’t need to limit yourself to just one medium.
Q: What unique experience or skills do you bring to MSUM?
A: I bring a little bit of a different perspective. I worked in both community education and museum education as well as the public school system.
So I have experience in different areas of the art community.
Q: What’s your favorite place to eat in Fargo-Moorhead?
My favorite place is Smoke and Iron in West Fargo. They have wonderful, delicious food.
Q: What’s your go-to productivity trick?
A: My go to productivity trick is to set a timer. There are a lot of times when motivation is very low. If I tell myself “just do it for 10 minutes and then see how you feel.” Most times, once that 10 minute is up and I’ve already started, I’m in it and I’m going to keep doing it.
