Recognizing Karissa Kjos with Dragon Pride
Karissa Kjos demonstrates Grit, Curiosity, and Heart through her work in the Office of Student Activities, especially with her commitment to improving the student experience at MSUM.
One of the clearest examples has been her leadership in the development and implementation of DragonCentral. Josey Fog said “taking on a new campus-wide platform required her to learn a complex system, work through challenges, collaborate with partners across campus, and think critically about how the platform could best serve our students. Karissa consistently stayed ahead of deadlines, produced high-quality work, and approached challenges with curiosity, asking questions not just about how we do something, but why and whether there is a better way.”
Josey also mentioned Karissa’s energy and heart for students. When a student stops by her office, he can hear them enthusiastically greeting her and leaving with excitement. “Whether she is supporting a student organization, helping a student leader navigate a challenge, or developing programs like DragonSteps, she keeps the student experience at the center of her decisions,” he says. “She is willing to advocate for them, listen to their needs, and put in the effort necessary to help them be successful.”
Karissa’s work develops stronger student organizations where students belong and feel supported. And can you believe she’s only been on campus about a year?! (workiversary in late October)
