Minnesota State Moorhead to host Donald S. Clark reading on Sept. 17 for Sand & McGrath Visiting Writing Series

Donald S. Clark, author of “Nature’s Writers: Mentored by the Land,” will present a reading at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, in the Barry Auditorium of the Christianson Alumni Center, 707 11th St. S., Moorhead.

Since 2019, Clark, an art and photography professor, has documented the places that have been instrumental in influencing the lives and words of both historic and contemporary nature and environmental writers throughout the United States. “Nature’s Writers: Mentored by the Land” explores the environments that shaped more than 40 of America’s most important writers, pairing stunning photography with excerpts from the writer about the land.

Clark has taught photography for 31 years. His work focuses on the environment and landscape issues with an interest in how people’s relationship with their environment affects culture. He has exhibited work throughout the U.S. and internationally.

Clark’s reading event is part of Minnesota State Moorhead’s Sand & McGrath Visiting Writers Series, which has brought some of the finest contemporary writers to campus. More than 150 writers have read and shared their work with students, faculty, and the community. The series also has sponsored or supported more than 50 other writers and events since its inaugural season in 1985.

This event is free and open to the public.
