Help Highlight MSUM Accomplishments for the HLC Assurance Argument
Minnesota State Moorhead is preparing for our Higher Learning Commission (HLC) site visit, which will occur in Fall 2027. As part of that preparation, the HLC Coordinating Committee (HLCCC) is collecting evidence and writing the Assurance Argument that will be provided to the visiting team.
Although the HLCCC will do much of the work of identifying accomplishments and collecting evidence, the committee is relatively small. We do not want to overlook achievements from your area, whether they involve faculty, students, staff, alumni, or community members connected to MSUM. To that end, this is the first in a series of messages that will provide opportunities to share accomplishments and evidence related to specific HLC subcriteria.
Knowledge Acquisition, Discovery, and Application (2E) and Exercise of Intellectual Inquiry (3B)
Examples of evidence that may be relevant to these subcriteria include:
- Research opportunities and policies
- Information about IRB or IACUC policies and training
- Training on citations, online research, library resources, artificial intelligence, plagiarism, and related topics
- Conduct processes and related training
- Information about the grants office
- Documentation of research symposia highlighting faculty and student scholarship
- Sample syllabi that require demonstrated intellectual inquiry and/or creative work
- Information about the use of inquiry and creative competence results
- Documentation showing that students engage in different modes of inquiry
- Qualitative evidence from artistic performances, exhibitions, juries, and similar activities
- Internship, practicum, and clinical opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students
- Notable faculty and student achievements related to scholarship and creative work
If you have examples that the HLCCC should consider, please submit them using the Microsoft Form below:

We are working to ensure broad representation across campus and do not want to miss important accomplishments simply because they were not brought to our attention at the right time.
Because of the word limit for the Assurance Argument, we cannot guarantee that every submission will be included. Some subcriteria overlap, so we may incorporate information that does not fit neatly within these areas into a related section.
Thank you for all you do, and please take this opportunity to highlight the accomplishments of yourselves and your students.
