Energy efficiency projects underway across campus

Minnesota State Moorhead, in partnership with Ameresco, is implementing a campus-wide Energy Efficiency project focused on improving energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and long-term sustainability. The project includes energy upgrades across academic, residential, athletic, dining, and support buildings throughout campus.

Work includes:

    Conversion of over 17,000 lighting fixtures to LED technology
    Building automation system (BAS) upgrades and controls modernization
    Laboratory ventilation and controls optimization
    Kitchen hood control and ventilation improvements
    Steam system insulation enhancements
    Weatherstripping, caulking, and door sweep installation
    Installation of campus utility submeters

Constructed started in July and is expected to be complete in January 2027.

Expected Campus and Staff Impacts

While on campus, you may experience:

    Periodic lighting outages during fixture replacements.
    Temporary, scheduled power outages at select buildings.
    Short-term HVAC interruptions or temperature fluctuations during controls integration and testing.
    Temporary closures of individual building entrances while weatherization work is performed.
    Increased contractor presence, equipment staging, and material deliveries throughout campus, including classrooms, offices, laboratories, mechanical rooms, housing, and common areas.
    Minor noise associated with construction and installation activities.

Most work will be scheduled during normal business hours and coordinated with Facilities Management and building occupants to reduce impacts on teaching, research, residential, and administrative activities. Advance notifications for any work that may affect building operations or occupant access will be provided.

Project updates and building-specific notifications will be communicated throughout construction as work progresses.
