Moorhead Launches New Graduate Assistantship Program for Fall 2026

Minnesota State Moorhead is proud to announce the launch of a new Graduate Assistantship Program, beginning Fall 2026, designed to provide graduate students with hands-on professional experience while helping reduce the cost of earning a graduate degree. Applications will open on Tuesday, March 24.

The new program offers competitive, paid positions across multiple academic areas. Graduate assistants will gain career-ready skills in teaching, research, leadership and professional practice while supporting the university’s mission of student success.

“Graduate assistantships are a high-impact opportunity for students to apply what they are learning in the classroom while building meaningful professional experience,” said Dean of Graduate Studies Dr. Robert Nava. “This new program strengthens our commitment to affordability, experiential learning, and graduate student success.”

Graduate assistants at Moorhead receive a comprehensive financial and academic support package, including:

  • Tuition Waiver:
    • Up to 6 graduate credits waived per semester
  • Stipend:
    • $2,500 per semester
  • Professional Experience:
    • Approximately 10–20 hours per week, depending on position
    • Responsibilities aligned with the hiring department and academic field
    • Opportunities to develop teaching, research, and leadership skills

Graduate assistantships are renewable based on satisfactory performance, with evaluations conducted at the end of each semester.

To be eligible, applicants must be admitted to a Minnesota State Moorhead graduate program and begin graduate coursework by Fall 2026.
