Physics Students and Professor Emeritus present at AAVSO Conference

Two students Jenna Martodam and Adreana Dillabough attended the American Association of Variable Star Observers (AAVSO) conference with Professor Emeritus Matt Craig.  Adreana and Jenna presented a poster on their research done using the MSUM Paul Feder Observatory “W Ursae Majoris-Type Eclipsing Binary V0512 Cam”.  The conference included multiple presentations (both remote and in-person) on a variety of astronomical topics. A few of the specific topics this year were Sun-gazing tips and experiences, the Vera C. Rubin Observatory’s upcoming Alerts, and opportunities for high-school students and undergraduates to do internships. In addition general research conducted by members of the organization was presented. This conference provided a great opportunity for the Adreana and Jenna to learn more about astronomy, create connections with fellow students and astronomers, learn about opportunities for research programs and internships, as well as learn a bit about potential next steps whether it is graduate school or a career.
