Speaking of Service: Voices of the Vietnam War

Join us for Speaking of Service: Voices of the Vietnam War, a powerful storytelling event that brings our community together to hear firsthand accounts from veterans who lived through the Vietnam War era.

Featured Speakers:

Rex Selnes – A U.S. Marine Corps veteran from Alvarado, Minnesota, Rex served with Marine Force Recon in Vietnam in 1969, earning the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and several other commendations. Following his military service, he and his wife, Judy, spent 25 years teaching in Mesa, Arizona, before retiring and returning to Minnesota. Rex remains active in several veteran organizations, including the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 941, the Moorhead American Legion, and Fargo AmVets.

David Scherzer – David was drafted into the U.S. Army on May 21, 1968, and served until May 21, 1970, as a member of the 101st Airborne Division. He deployed to Vietnam in November 1968 and was wounded in action the following month. After recovering at Zama Hospital in Japan, he returned to Vietnam to continue his service. David received multiple honors, including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Air Medal. After returning home, he earned his degree from Moorhead State College in 1973 and married his wife, Pat, in 1972. David is an active member of the Moorhead American Legion, Moorhead VFW, Vietnam Veterans of America, AmVets, and Disabled American Veterans.
