Retiree death: Darrel Meinke

Former library dean Darrel Meinke, age 96, passed away over the summer. He came to Moorhead in 1973 as director of instructional resources and was promoted to dean of instructional resources in 1981. In these positions, he oversaw the library and the campus television and audiovisual production centers, interacting with many campus departments and developing collaborative programs with other colleges/universities in the area. During his tenure, he also oversaw the 1987 additions to the library (3rd and 4th floors and the library porch) and the library’s move from card catalogs to computer catalogs. He retired from the university in 1993, and he and his wife, Lois, moved to Sun City, Texas, where they enjoyed warm weather, new friends, and many activities.
