Become a Learning Assistant – Support Learning and Grow as an Educator!
Are you interested in helping others learn while strengthening your own understanding of course material? The Learning Assistant (LA) Program offers a unique opportunity to develop your teaching, communication, and leadership skills — all while making a difference in your peers’ learning experience.
As a Learning Assistant, you’ll work closely with faculty and students to support active learning in the classroom or labs. LAs are trained through the LA Pedagogy course (XXXX 389 course), which focuses on effective communication, metacognition, and fostering inclusive learning environments.
Why become an LA?
-
Deepen your understanding of course concepts
-
Build leadership and communication skills
-
Earn upper-division credit in your major (e.g., NURS 389, GEOS 389, PSY 389, CHEM 389 or your department’s equivalent)
-
Gain meaningful teaching experience that strengthens graduate school or job applications
-
Be part of a supportive learning community
