The First Amendment in Action: Libraries, Book Bans, and the Fight for Intellectual Freedom

Join us for a timely Constitution Day panel exploring intellectual freedom and the First Amendment. Across the country, book challenges and bans are shaping what communities—and especially young people—can read and learn.

2-3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17
Event page in Dragon Central

Panelists:

Andi Bodeau, Past Chair, Minnesota Library Association’s Intellectual Freedom Committee
Mariah Ralston, Co-Chair, Right to Read ND
Randi Monley, Co-Chair, Right to Read ND

The Minnesota Library Association speaker will discuss Minnesota’s new law on library intellectual freedom and how communities can protect the right to read. Our North Dakota panelists will share how libraries and advocates are responding in a very different political climate. Together, the panel will explore how libraries, educators, and students can uphold intellectual freedom as both a constitutional value and a community responsibility.

Note: This is a virtual event with in-person viewing in the Faculty and Professional Learning Center (LI 124) or via Zoom. Light refreshments will be served.
