Gabriel Grant is nominated for the Goldwater Scholarship for his research on eclipsing binary stars

Fargo native Gabriel Grant has been nominated for the prestigious national Goldwater Scholarship for his research. He is studying eclipsing binary stars, after successfully predicting when they would occur with a program he created. 
 
“There’s a little bit of magic to it,” he says. 
 
Gabe chose Minnesota State University Moorhead for the opportunity to conduct research in his first year on campus, a staple of the science department. 
 
The Goldwater Scholarship is one of the most prestigious undergraduate awards given in the sciences. Congress established the scholarship in 1986 in honor of former U.S. senator and 1964 presidential candidate, Barry Goldwater.
