Meet 2025 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient, Keri Pickett ’82
Keri Pickett has built an impressive career as a filmmaker, photographer, and storyteller, capturing compelling human experiences through visual media. Her work has been recognized with numerous industry awards, and she previously received MSUM’s Outstanding Young Alumni Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the School of Art.
From photographing world leaders and renowned musicians to documenting the intimate lives of her own family, Pickett’s work is marked by both precision and deep emotion. She has authored multiple books and directed several documentary films, including The Fabulous Ice Age, which was picked up by Netflix.
“One thing I learned in my time (at MSUM) and since, is you should never say never,” she says.
As a photography student at MSUM, Pickett refined her artistic skills under the guidance of dedicated faculty, learning to balance technical expertise with conceptual depth. That foundation gave her the confidence to launch an independent career, taking creative risks that led to national recognition.
