Call for First Year Experience (FYE) Course Instructors
The First Year Experience (FYE) Committee seeks student-centered individuals interested in teaching a First Year Experience (FYE) course designed to help our new students successfully transition to MSUM.
The First Year Experience (FYE) course at MSUM is a one-credit graduation requirement for any student entering with less than 24 credits.
If you are interested in teaching FYE for Fall 2025, please complete the Fall 2025 First Year Experience Instructor Application form by February 28th, 2025, for consideration. Once submitted, your applicable Chair, Dean, Director, or Supervisor will be contacted to confirm their support of your application.

The First Year Experience Committee is committed to an equitable and inclusive instructor selection process for our First Year Experience program at MSUM. Selections will be made based on the following criteria:

Approval by the employees’ Chair, Dean, Director, or Supervisor
Masters degree or higher
Status as a full-time MSUM employee
Knowledge of MSUM resources and services
Commitment to delivering a culturally inclusive, student-centered curriculum along with culturally responsive pedagogy
Participation in the following FYE Instructor Development Workshops

Workshop #1 – May 7th, 2025 – 9:00 am-12:00
As a result of participating in this workshop, instructors will be able to:

Articulate the goals, purpose and philosophy of FYE
Learn how to implement a culturally responsive pedagogy
Establish a co-teaching relationship with your FYE Learning Assistant
Become acquainted with the Faculty Resources available for the course
Build community as a cohort of instructors and peer leaders

Workshop #2 – August 19th, 2025 – 9:00 am-12:00 pm OR July 22nd for those on contract in the summer
As a result of participating in this workshop, instructors will be able to:

Reconnect and reaffirm culturally responsive pedagogy and the co-teaching relationship.
Explore the equity-based, culturally inclusive FYE curriculum.
