MSUM Economics majors continue publishing research nationally
Jonas Baune is the eleventh MSUM Economics major to publish research in an undergraduate journal since 2011 under the mentorship of Economics professors Oscar Flores and T. J. Hansen. Notably, “Determinants of Food Insecurity in Africa: A Panel and Multi-Level Analysis,” is one of five papers selected for inclusion in Issues in Political Economy in June 2024.
Baune’s research recognizes that food insecurity varies across a spectrum ranging from mild to severe nutritional impacts. Using an econometric model, he investigates the influence of global versus local variables across the food insecurity spectrum and offers policy recommendations related to both influences.
