9/11 Commemoration Event Tomorrow
Date: Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024
Start Time: 7:40 am
End Time: 7:55 am
Location: Flagpole, MSUM campus mall
All Dragons are invited to gather by the campus mall flagpole at 7:40 am Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, for a Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance commemoration. The brief ceremony will include words of remembrance. The flag will be lowered to half-staff at 7:46 a.m. (8:46 a.m. EST), denoting when American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower. Dr. Tom Strait will perform Taps on the trumpet during this time, followed by a moment of silence honoring the day.
On September 11, 2001, ordinary Americans showed extraordinary heroism during horrific attacks. First responders risked their lives to save others, while colleagues and strangers helped the wounded. Passengers and crew members sacrificed themselves to prevent further attack, and a generation of women and men answered the call of duty by joining the Armed Forces to defend our freedom.
On this Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance, we remember and honor the heroes and victims whose lives were taken too soon and those who survived. We also pledge to continue the spirit of unity that sustained our nation through the days that followed.
