Jonas Baune’s Economic Research to be Published in Issues in Political Economy Journal
Economics alumnus, Jonas Baune, will join a select group of undergraduate researchers’ analyses featured in Issues in Political Economy in 2024. His research, “Determinants of Food Insecurity in Africa: A Panel and Multi-Level Analysis,” recognizes that food insecurity varies across a spectrum ranging from mild to severe nutritional impacts. Using an econometric model, Baune investigates the influence of global and local variables across the food insecurity spectrum. He concludes with policy recommendations that account for both influences. While a student at MSUM, Baune presented this research at the Issues in Political Economy Undergraduate Research Conference held in conjunction with the Eastern Economics Association. Drs. Oscar Flores and T. J. Hansen mentored Baune’s research and served as professors for the Food & Healthcare Economics and International Trade & Finance courses where his original interest in the topic emerged.
